One Perfect Day

The cherries were ripe on the trees today, and the rain poured sweet and steady.  Why not pick cherries in the rain?

So cherries were playfully picked...

...and patiently pitted...

...while chickens...

...and children...

...played in the cool, constant rain...

...and came back inside, to drink hot chocolate.

Meanwhile, the mothers baked bread...

...and the grandmother made soup from the last of last summer’s tomatoes.

And so there was monkey bread for hungry monkeys...

...and if it sounds like the perfect day, that’s because it was.
