The Preacher and I walk together most every morning. Our favorite spot is a meadow we have nicknamed “Mimi’s Meadow”. All it is, is a city park, flanked by a large stream where folks can drop a canoe in for paddling. It boasts a single, circular trail, which we have walked for over two years, in every season.

I love Mimi’s Meadow in all seasons, but believe it or not, in spite of the heat and oppressive southern humidity, my favorite season is August. Never think a southerner can’t be active outdoors in August. We are a tough bunch.

Ah, in August this meadow is like a fairy tale, teeming with passion flower, trumpet vine, daisies, morning glory, Queen Anne’s lace, every sort of bird you can think of, fat blackberries and baby bunnies…and the occasional snake (you can ask my grandchildren about that).

It’s the last day of November, at this writing, and if I could click my heels three times and be anywhere, I would choose this meadow on an August morning.
