Her story is one of great faith. I have three (ish) questions:

1. What if Peter had been a woman…a mother…in that boat, at sea in a storm.

2. Would Jesus have told her she couldn’t step out of the boat because she’s a woman? Would He have told her “Come. But leave your child”….?

3. Or would He simply have smiled warmly and said, “COME.”

(Answers: no, no, and y e s.)

For every young mama who finds herself with a baby, or with several children, AND also called to take an enormous step of faith…Jesus still smiles and says “Come.”

I know. This was me, 30 years ago, September 12, 1993.

On that day, 30 years ago, we held the very first service of our new church plant. I had 3 littles and a 6 month old baby. Our “salary” was $50 a week, for a long time. Obviously, my husband was bivocational. He went from making overtime pay, up for promotion, to cutting back some of his overtime, only to give it away to plant a church. It was hard. It took real, raw faith.

My husband is mighty in faith. I had to lock eyes with Jesus, carrying a baby, and holding the hands of a toddler and two preschoolers, and get out of the boat.

Make no mistake, it was stormy.

Mama. You can do it. Believe Him.
