Print: “Always Summer Abstract Floral Light”

This is a print of a sold original rendered in acrylic, soft pastel, oil pastel, and willow. I used to be an autumn girl, but once I turned 50, some invisible switch was flipped, and summer has my whole heart.

Also, this painting was a study in ease and confidence. Not only was it the first of many abstract florals that I shared publicly, after painting in this style for some time - it also was the first serious painting I embarked upon after spending weeks creating an online class. I expected it to feel “hard”. Suddenly, I strongly felt that I was to lean into ease. I took a deep breath, picked up my usual three paint brushes into my right hand, and began to PLAY.

This piece was finished in a matter of hours, and I chose to share it. “Always Summer” sold to a brand new collector before her paint was dry. Ease, indeed. Why do we make some things so hard? I was reminded yet again of the easy yoke of Christ.
